Brain Balancing Chiropractic Therapy

We are wellness consultants, focusing on the way YOUR stress is affecting YOUR health. Stress management is difficult because the busyness of life keeps us strapped for time. Our goal is to treat and educate you to reduce stress without resorting to medication or surgery to manage the symptoms of stress and the resulting pain or illness.

Phases of Treatment

Phase 1 treatment is designed to eliminate your pain and symptoms as time-effectively as possible.

Phase 2 treatment is to return you to normal activities of daily living, with no symptoms. We want your brain to recognize no pain or symptoms. If this is not achieved, the pain sticks around, and your condition will continue to persist.

Phase 3 treatment is what we call Wellness Care. Now that you have invested your time and money into getting well, we strongly encourage monthly Wellness Adjustments as one of the Core 4 things we recommend to stay healthy! The other three include proper diet and supplementation, exercising, and prayer/meditation. We want you to live your best life possible!

At 24 years old, while working as a Civil Engineer, Dr. Chris Reid began to experience health problems and constant pain for the first time, having recurring headaches and severe, stabbing low back and leg pain (aka sciatica). Unaware of chiropractic care at the time, Dr. Reid sought relief via the standard care of the time—medical care. He was evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon, and a CT Scan was performed, which revealed a bulging disc in his low back. He was prescribed muscle relaxers, pain, and anti-inflammatory medications, and was referred to a physical therapist for exercises. The stabbing pain persisted! He saw an Internal Medicine physician for his headaches. X-rays were performed, which were negative, and he was told by the physician that he was “too young to have headaches!” Again, no answers. Dr. Reid was very frustrated and scared. He felt, “if this is what I feel like now, how am I going to feel in 10 years, or 20?!”

Motivated to improve his condition, Dr. Reid continued exercising as his body tolerated while training for triathlons. He also researched nutrition and vitamin therapy. While he made some very positive changes in his life, his symptoms persisted… there was still something amiss.

At the age of 26, Dr. Chris Reid moved to San Diego, California, where he was introduced to chiropractic care through an Olympic athlete. He also learned that professional athletes living in the Southern California area were being treated with chiropractic care for optimal or “peak” performance! Knowing nothing about chiropractic, but very intrigued, Dr. Reid sought this avenue of help, and it was truly a life-changing event for him. His headaches and stabbing low back and leg pain disappeared! Dr. Reid was amazed to realize that he was able to achieve these results WITHOUT the use of drugs or surgery. He had finally found the missing piece of his puzzle in the form of chiropractic health care. With chiropractic care, proper nutrition/vitamin therapy, regular exercise, and prayer, Dr. Reid laid the foundation for optimal health in his life.

At 32 years old, he moved his young family back to his hometown of Springfield, IL, and returned to school at Logan College of Chiropractic in Chesterfield, MO. He earned his Doctorate Degree of Chiropractic, and has been in practice in Springfield, IL since 1997. An avid learner, Dr. Reid has continued his pursuit of excellence, attaining post-graduate certifications as a Diplomate of the American Clinical Board of Nutrition (DACBN), a Diplomate of the Chiropractic Board of Clinical Nutrition (DCBCN), and as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP). He is also certified in Acupuncture and Active Release Technique (ART)..

Dr. Shaughn received his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Logan University in August of 2015. His interest in chiropractic started at a young age when his father, Dr. Chris Reid, graduated from chiropractic school. Dr. Shaughn’s youth was filled with lots of physical activity and playing sports. Growing up in a health-conscious family, regular chiropractic care, a well-balanced diet, and daily vitamin supplementation were a part of his everyday life. This foundation began his love for chiropractic and natural health and motivated him to want to help, heal and educate others so they too can experience this same way of life.

Outside of the office, Dr. Shaughn’s hobbies include running, weight lifting, yoga, and playing frisbee at the park with his wife and dogs. An active lifestyle is something that he encourages his patients to incorporate into their daily lives, to get them healthy and keep them healthy. His goal is to help everyone who walks through the door at Reid Family Wellness realize that they hold the key to true health and happiness. His passion is to help and educate people on how to live a vital life through chiropractic care, proper nutrition and moderate physical activity.

Dr. Shay received her Doctorate degree and the Legacy award from Logan College of Chiropractic in August of 2016. Her father Dr. Chris Reid, a Logan graduate as well, brought his children up with chiropractic care, which peaked her interest in the profession. Dr. Shay was an athlete all of her life and getting adjusted became part of her normal routine, along with a proper diet, vitamin supplementation, and prayer and meditation.

It wasn’t until starting chiropractic school that Dr. Shay realized just how powerful a chiropractic adjustment could be! Growing up in a chiropractic, health-conscious family and learning everything she had in school, she was excited to graduate and get her life started in her chiropractic career. When not working, Dr. Shay’s hobbies include swimming at the YMCA, running, stretching, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her niece, Ruby.

Dr. Shay’s goal is to educate her clients and the greater Springfield area with the importance of health and how each and every one of us can achieve that goal! At Reid Family Wellness, their health recipe consists of: exercise, proper nutrition/supplementation, prayer and meditation and last, but certainly not least, the chiropractic, brain-balancing adjustment.
